Abstract

In a TruCluster Server environment, Tru64 UNIX is installed only once. In this Tru64 UNIX installation process, the first step is to install all software components of the operating system. Some important documents are always reviewed before starting the installation of Tru64 UNIX. The documents include Tru64 UNIX Release notes, TruCluster Server Release Notes etc. Cluster configuration planning is essential to prepare for the installation of Tru64 UNIX. Tru64 UNIX is installed as a preparation to build a TruCluster Server environment. The first step of Tru64 UNIX installation is to boot from the Tru64 UNIX Installation CD. Then the installation is started and the information is setup for a full installation. After that installation software is selected, followed by kernel option selection. A file system type is chosen to utilize for the operating system's file systems. After that a File System Layout is determined. The software is installed after File System is created. Finally, the UNIX kernel is configured and built. A standalone Tru64 UNIX can be configured by performing certain tasks on the network. The first task is to provide OSF-BASE Licensing Information. Then Network Interface Card (NIC) is configured. After that network routing is set up. The Domain Name Service (DNS) Server, Network Time Protocol (NTP) Server, Network Information Service (NIS) Server and e-mail server are specified. Finally, a Default Printer and Print Server are set. After these tasks are completed the nest step is the installation and configuration of TruCluster Server. A quick step is performed to configure Tru64 UNIX in preparation for the installation of TruCluster Server. Tru64 UNIX Server is installed and configured for the purpose of deploying TruCluster Server.
