Abstract
ABSTRACTUSING previously collected data on the morphology of semiarid valleys, a technique is developed for discriminating between stable and unstable valley floors. Relations between drainage area, discharge, and flow depth are used to develop a shear-stress indicator that can be used to identify those reaches of a valley floor that are most likely to fail by gullying.
