Abstract

A linear stability analysis using normal mode technique is applied on an internally heated anisotropic Brinkman porous layer with vertical throughflow. Four internal heat source functions are considered to model the problem with same temperature at the bounding plates. The basic temperature profile due to pure internal heating is seen to be disturbed by throughflow (upward or downward) and the impact of through flow on these profiles is studied. Downward through flow, in particular, is seen to disturb the instability criterion for different profiles. Effect of anisotropy and modified Darcy number on onset of convection is also discussed.
