Abstract

Posterior instability of the shoulder is a rare condition affecting the gleno-humeral joint. In most cases it is due to a trauma or a repetitive overhead sport. It can be part of a multidirectional instability like in hyperlaxity. Useful diagnostic tools are MRI and MRI-arthrogram. The most frequent tear is the detachment of the posterior labrum, known as “reverse Bankart”. Most cases can be treated by arthroscopic surgery, while an open approach is advantageous in case of bone defects.
