Abstract

This article describes the common types of deterioration found in storage facilities and suggests methods for inspecting and evaluating the condition of these structures. Common deterioration mechanisms for steel, concrete, reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, and concrete‐encased steel structures are discussed. Inspection methods, including suggestions for conducting underwater inspections and precautions to be taken with this type of inspection, are listed. An inspection checklist is provided.
