Abstract

The inspections recommended below are intended to apply to new playground equipment made in accordance with Parts 1 and 2 of BS5696. Other equipment may require different maintenance, and some situations require a more frequent and higher level of inspection and maintenance. The frequency will depend on the type of equipment, its condition and history of maintenance, the environmental conditions, degree of use and the likelihood of vandalism. It's important that these factors are assessed and used to prepare a maintenance schedule for all play equipment which should be reviewed regularly in the light of experience. You should keep records of all the inspections. Photocopy the forms given with this article and keep them in a ring binder. As you acquire new equipment ensure that a relevant form is completed for each piece. Inspections must be carried out as follows:
