Abstract
ABSTRACT Contemporary healthcare managers are increasingly facing the pressure to adopt electronic solutions to support efficiencies and improved patient outcomes in the delivery of healthcare. They should however be more conscious and intentional about exploring how the implementation of these technologies and associated approaches affect the staff that use them. The thrust of this paper is to present Research-Based Management (RBMgt) as an approach to Evidence-Based Management (EBMgt) that is integral to decision-making in contemporary healthcare management. The paper explores the risk of professional isolation in the implementation of the concept of ‘mobile working’ in community nursing through qualitative research methodology. The findings of the research highlight that while mobile working is increasingly becoming widespread in healthcare delivery, there is a need for managers and leaders to be cautious and consider the potential correlation between mobile working and professional isolation for healthcare professionals.
