Abstract

Four kinds of Bi2WO6 with different morphology were prepared by facile hydrothermal method with different additives and pH. In the photocatalytic degradation of gaseous toluene under visible light irradiation (λ > 420 nm), the nest-like Bi2WO6 performed the best photodegradation efficiency of 100% in only 20 min, and could be reused for at least eight times without a significant loss of catalytic activity. According to the characterization techniques, including XRD, SEM, TEM, XPS, BET, UV–vis, PL and TPR, the excellent photocatalytic activity of the nest-like Bi2WO6 is ascribed to the small particle size, large photo response interval, narrow band gap, high separation efficiency of electron-hole pairs and low recombination rate of photogenerated electron holes, that result in abundant reaction active sites.
