Abstract

Metal phosphonates have been recognized as promising catalysts due to their unique properties such as convenient synthesis routes, lower cost, tunable acidity and basicity, and excellent thermal and chemical stability. This review article provides a comprehensive overview of the latest research on the synthesis, characterization, and catalytic activity of metal phosphonates, with a particular focus on organic transformations, epoxidation, carboxylation and oxidation reactions. The potential applications of metal phosphonates in the fields of energy, environment, and industry are also highlighted.
