Abstract

This chapter is a part of a pan-European publication on research in the arts, originally funded by Riksbankens Jubileumsfond in Sweden, and preceded by an author’s colloquium at The Royal Society of Arts, London on 27-28 April 2009. The chapter is concerned with a psychoanalytic approach to arts based research, and includes a discussion of the dialogue between Jacques Lacan and Salvador Dali, on the ‘Paranoiac Critical Method’, as well as discussion of Freud’s essay on Leonardo da Vinci, and the relevance of psychoanalysis to debates on research in contemporary art.
