Abstract

This article, the second in this series on men's health issues, will provide a basic overview of some of the issues that men face in relation to their general healthcare, such as social attitudes to men, the ‘male psyche’, male health and whether (and why) men do not access healthcare services in the same way that women do. A number of local, national and international reports into men's health will be highlighted; these may be of use in helping support staff understand how our society's construction of the male identity prevents men from accessing health services.
