Abstract

How is it, asks Daniel Drache, that the Macdonald Royal Commission, specifically created to lay the groundwork for a new social consensus on economic policy, has come up with solutions crudely biased in favour of corporate Canada? Drache, reflecting many other left critics, summarizes the internal evidence in the Report, notably its pervasive preference for market forces and limited government intervention in the economy, which ties together its advocacy of US free trade and rejection of an interventionist industrial strategy.
