Abstract

In recent years we have seen substantial developments in our knowledge and understanding of stem cell biology and regenerative medicine. Nevertheless, in many respects, the field is still in its infancy. The next few decades will unveil the true potential of this emerging specialty. Regenerative Medicine will provide a critical overview of these advances as they unfold and explore their potential relevance in the clinical setting. Our aim in launching the journal has been to address the most important topics in an authoritative way. We have also tried to structure each article so that the content is as clear and accessible to the reader as possible. Many hands and minds have been involved in putting this launch issue together. I would particularly like to thank the Senior Editor, Dr Stephen Minger, whose insights and effort have been vital in the development of the journal. I also thank the Associate Editors and the international Editorial Board for their continued support and advice. Of course, I must also thank the authors who have contributed to this issue and placed their trust in this new venture. I should add that each of the articles we publish are subject to peer review by three independent experts and I thank all of the referees for their timely and constructive comments. We have already established stimulating and rewarding relationships within a vibrant community – I hope these are the first of many.
