Abstract
Osmium tetroxide is an excellent catalyst for the dihydroxylation and oxidative cleavage of olefins, but it is highly toxic, hazardous, expensive, and volatile in nature. In their Communication on page 6735 ff., D.-P. Kim and co-workers describe a safe and efficient nanobrush microreactor that allows both the complete utilization of OsO4 and prevention of its release into the environment.
