Abstract

The lead mixed oxyhalides Pb13O6Cl4Br10, Pb13O6Cl7Br7, and Pb13O6Cl9Br5, with both a suitable band gap (Eg) and NLO coefficient (dij), satisfy all the fundamental requirements to be high-performance mid-IR nonlinear optical (NLO) materials. As reported by K. M. Ok and co-workers in their Research Article on page 7514, millimeter-sized crystals of Pb13O6Cl4Br10 and Pb13O6Cl7Br7 and centimeter-sized crystals of Pb13O6Cl9Br5 can be grown by the flux method in an open system, which is a huge advantage compared to the growth of all the non-oxide IR NLO crystals.
