Abstract

Mechanical properties of nanogels influence their cellular fate. Inspired by the natural ability of the cells to sense stiffness, Smriti Singh et al. in their Research Article (DOI: 10.1002/anie.202116653) developed highly hydrophilic soft nanogels and show that the passive engulfment of the soft nanogels by the immune cells was drastically reduced compared to the stiffer counterpart. The delayed uptake resulted in an enhanced circulation time of the nanogels, an important criterion for drug delivery applications.
