Abstract
Organisms with defect genes are important tools in biological research. They allow the analysis of gene functions, given that they display characteristics (phenotypes) that differ from that of „normal“ (wild type) organisms. Defects in plant genes or knockout plants are often generated by using T-DNA insertional mutagenesis. Large collections of T-DNA mutants - like the GABI-Kat collection for the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana — serve basic plant research since more than ten years.
