Abstract

1. An iodine atom in any position of the pyridine ring is easily replaced by an acetylenic moiety when reacted with terminal acetylenic compounds in the presence of copper and potassium carbonate. In their reactivity the isomeric iodopyridines fall into the order:α≫γ≥β. 2. A method for the synthesis of ethynylpyridines and their N,N-dialkylaminomethyl derivatives was developed on the basis of the acetylenic condensation.
