Abstract

Lange (1941) reported that both sexes of the artichoke plume moth, Platyptilia carduidactyla (Riley), were capable of mating several times. Lange et al. (1954) found the mean number of eggs deposited by females in field populations to be 170. It seemed possible that multiple inseminations might increase fecundity of the females, and this study examines the possibility that multiple insemination is related to fecundity in the artichoke plume moth.
