Abstract
This latest revision of a bulletin originally issued in 1949 shortly after the introduction of the first residual insecticide, DDT, provides a concise guide to the use of insecticides that will be of interest to persons concerned with the control of arthropod vectors of disease and pests in the tropics. While it contains a section on “Precautions in the Use of Insecticides,” it does not in all cases take into account the mounting restrictions on their use in the United States. This limits the applicability, in this country, of some of the methods described.The first part provides general information on insecticides in current use, formulations, methods and organization for residual spraying, and a discussion of other formulations for use by a variety of means including dusts, pellets, granules, aerosols, the incorporation of insecticides into paints and whitewashes, and the application of high-spreading oil larvicides.
