Insecticides for Control of the Lesser Peach Tree Borer, with Notes on the Peach Tree Borer1

Abstract

Seven insecticides were tested in randomized field plots for control of the lesser peach tree borer, Synanthedon pictipes (Grote & Robinson), from 1966 through 1968. Sprays of endosulfan gave a slightly higher degree of control each year than any of the other insecticides tested. Observations indicated that the lesser peach tree borer and the peach tree borer, Sannioidea exitiosa (Say), are adequately controlled with 4 applications per season of endosulfan applied to the tree trunks and lower limbs. Timing of sprays for the Piedmont and Tidewater areas of Virginia should be as follows (±5 days) : May 1, June 1, July 15, and August 15.
