Abstract
This paper addresses the problems of input observability and reconstruction for linear time-invariant systems. The corresponding necessary and sufficient conditions are provided. A systematic and simple approach to the design of schemes for input reconstruction is developed. The design is based on a matrix pencil decomposition form which is obtainable using numerically stable orthogonal transformations. The relations among input reconstruction, system inversion and disturbance-decoupled observers are explored.
