Abstract
• Biomimic active transport is recapitulated using colloidal microcapsules with single micropore channel, which enables switchable uptake of substances via an enclosed photocatalytic reaction. • The present colloidal capsule not only lays a foundation for creating life-like entities through simple inorganic matter, but also realizes ingestion, preservation, and delivery of payloads. • Such biomimetic design could even go beyond life itself and find extensive applications in biomedical, environmental, and energy engineering fields.
