Abstract

Abstract The innovative additive manufacturing (AM) training method proposed in this article encourages and enables students to build three-dimensional (3D) printers and promotes a higher adoption rate for these technologies in educational institutions. It synthesizes the skill sets of the triumvirate of the designer, the operator, and the technician, while simultaneously integrating the viewpoints of the printer developer as well as the product designer. This creates a potential platform for realizing the full capabilities of AM technologies and fills the present vacuum in the technical know-how and expertise in the field of 3D printing. The proposed framework allows students to familiarize themselves with the 3D printing process through a hands-on approach and combines the understanding and application of design skills with first-hand experience so that they understand products, systems, software, and hardware integration much better. At Dayalbagh Educational Institute, we provide accessible 3DP resourc...
