Abstract

The study introduces a novel porous organic polymer, FeII(Cp)2-POP, synthesized from ferrocene and s-triazine, and characterized through various analytical techniques such as FT-IR, Raman, XRD, XPS, UV–visible, SEM, HR-TEM, EDX, BET surface area analysis, TGA, photocurrent measurements, EIS, and CV. This photocatalyst exhibits reusability, contributing to by-products reduction and resource efficiency. The sustainable methodology adheres to green chemistry principles, promoting eco-friendly synthetic approaches. FeII(Cp)2-POP was utilized in the photocatalytic reduction of nitroarenes to anilines, essential organic chemistry precursors, using N2H4 and visible-light activation under mild conditions. The incorporation of porous organic polymers with a ferrocene framework displayed promising outcomes in enhancing the reduction of nitroarene compounds, with a focus on reducing the nitro-functional group in benzimidazole-based compound.
