Abstract
Family Service League Inc. (FSL), is the largest behavioral health provider in Suffolk County, Long Island. FSL, for many years, has sought to bridge gaps in the larger system when it comes to crisis care. For too long, the lack of a truly integrated system of crisis care forced a binary choice between sending someone to the hospital and trying to secure an outpatient appointment. Additionally, this has historically relegated law enforcement to the role of de facto mental health and substance abuse professionals, something that is less than desirable, inefficient, and often results in less than optimal outcomes.
