Abstract

Software Defined Networks (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) put requirements on the Energy Systems to deliver not only power but also to provide performance data with high resolution and granularity. Intelligent Load Management (ILM) needs data on consumed power available to be able to decide on optimal way to utilize available power in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure. Tower companies that lets out infrastructure to several operators and datacenters that co locate operators in same space puts requirements to measure utilization of energy to be able to bill for the real usage of energy in the provided infrastructure and to provide Quality of Service data. Modern technologies to measure current with low cost and high accuracy have enabled the possibility to develop cost efficient measurement of single load outputs. Those measurements enable the possibility to perform advanced measurements that provide data for continuous Intelligent Load Management (ILM) required by the future 5G network. This paper will describe different aspects of the usage of modern technologies in DC power systems to measure energy in DC load distributions and the potential usage of measure energy for every load to perform ILM.
