Abstract
Because of the inevitable delays attributable to the death of the previous editor, events have to some extent progressed beyond the position set out here. I have not altered the article, but would draw your attention to the articles on patent information and the prospects for the Community Patent by Manfred Schmiemann, and the note on the IPR helpdesk, in the previous issue. Esp@cenet is also well established as an Internet database across Europe.
