Abstract
Ivan Yates' article “Investment in Industrial Innovation: the International Perspective” (Forum, February p21) highlights how essential it is for a successful economy to have a strong manufacturing base and a sustained investment in innovation to maintain that base. This view is fully supported by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) where, conscious of the UK's decline in competitiveness compared with an increasing number of countries, we have been developing a comprehensive portfolio of activities to address and pose solutions to the key problems which Ivan Yates identifies.
