Abstract

The article brings to bear the wisdom of nine practitioners of learning technology (LT) on the five guidelines for innovative thinking in LT research. Each of the twelve frame their input within the context of evaluating a framework consisting of components from the ADDIE instructional design model, as well as nine events of instruction proposed by Gagne in 1985. The exercise is motivated by the lack of design research aimed at determining how novel LT research topics are created. Several examples of such topics are presented.
