Abstract

In an interview study, 14 collaborative teams from inclusive classrooms (classroom teacher and special education teacher) were interviewed about their inclusive teaching practices. Besides wellknown and frequently discussed topics like teacher cooperation and resources, the study raises an issue, which is rarely part of the current debate on inclusion in German speaking countries: Special education teachers question, whether it is possible to be as effective while being inclusive. In addition, teachers identify different challenges. For classroom teachers, students’ heterogeneity with respect to achievement is demanding. For special education teachers, cooperation with classroom teachers - especially fostering an attitude towards inclusion – is most challenging.
