Abstract

In co-operation with the MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH, investigations concerning the potential of injection rate shaping at an experimental heavy-duty diesel engine in single cylinder version have been carried out at the Institute for Technical Combustion of the University of Hanover. Utilising an independently developed research injection system and using a tool chain consisting of optical measurement systems including integral optical-fibre metrology and a rapid compression machine, it was possible to identify and analyse the relevant effects within the combustion process. This dissertation was awarded with the Hermann-Appel-Preis 2006 of the IAV GmbH.
