Abstract

Fretting fatigue crack initiate very early in the fretting fatigue life. And fretting fatigue life is dominated by the propagation process of small cracks. So, the prediction of fretting fatigue crack initiation and crack propagation behaviors is very important for estimating fretting fatigue strength. In this paper, the initiation of fretting fatigue crack is first estimated using the stress singularity parameters at contact edges and then the propagation behavior of this fretting fatigue crack is estimated using fracture mechanics analysis.
