Abstract

This chapter deals with the industrialized solution for low-cost housing in China's rural areas. It focuses on materials used for frames, roofs, floors, walls, and ceilings. Clay-brick and prestressed reinforced concrete boards are widely used to build houses in rural areas. The cost of the house is usually around 200–300 Yuan per square meter. Normally people use bamboo for crafts such as basket or other commodities. Stone is easy to get for the people living in mountain areas and highlands. Even today it is still widely used for the foundation or walls of the houses. The chapter also analyzes the requirement and the construction methods for each material on fireproofing, antisepsis, and waterproofing. The wall and roof are the main costs for housing. If the costs for walls and roof can be controlled successfully the total costs to build a house can be greatly reduced. The best way to reduce the costs of walls and roof in rural area is to use straw board or bamboo board, build it.
