Abstract

Hexokinase, phosphoglucomutase, and phosphohexoisomerase have been demonstrated in extracts of Azotobacter vinelandii. In all assay systems used, phosphohexokinase could not be demonstrated. Evidence indicates also the presence of aldolase and 3-phosphoglyceraldehyde dehydrogenase. Operation of the alternative oxidative route is suggested by several observations, the most impressive being the demonstration of an active glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase and rapid oxidation of 6-PG.
