Abstract

The initial part (IP) of a compact pulsed proton linac with an output energy of ≃230 MeV is intended for the formation and acceleration of a beam with a pulsed current of up to $$250\,\,\mu {\text{A}}$$ and up to an energy of $$ \geqslant 10$$ MeV, which allows the transition to the accelerating structure of the $$S$$ -frequency range with a high acceleration rate. The formation of bunches with a small longitudinal and transverse emittance and the prevention of a significant increase in emittance during acceleration are essential conditions. Particular attention is paid to the balance and reliability of the proposed solutions and the availability and motivated feasibility of the elements of the IP.
