Abstract
The launching loss for waves in the gyrotron travelling-wave amplifier has been calculated by a method similar to that for the classical traveling-wave tube. The maximum loss is comparable that for the TWT but increases as cyclotron frequency is increased past the guide cut-off frequency. The loss also varies substantially with signal frequency, being least at the edges of the passband for growing-wave gain.
