Abstract

Cooperative planning efforts among the various health-care professionals who treat psychosomatic illness are essential. The following article addresses the initial planning and intervention, pointing out common mismanagement practices and identifying seven important points in adequate management. Cases from experience in joint physician-psychologist diagnosis and treatment of psychosomatic illness are presented. The approach is very basic, bringing together some accepted psychological medicine principles and a protocol-like approach to developing the initial treatment plan for the psychosomatic patient.
