Abstract

α 2-adrenergic receptors labeled by [ 3H]clonidine (α 2-antagonist) can be solubilized from the rat brain with a zwitterionic detergent, 3-[(3-cholamidopropyl)-dimethylammonio]-1-propane sulfonate (CHAPS). CHAPS-solubilized receptors have the same characteristics of membrane-boundα 2-receptors in the brain, and the regulation of receptor binding by guanine nucleotides is retained in the soluble state.
