Abstract

Inhibitory sidebands have been found in some complex receptive fields in the cats striate cortex. Similar to the sidebands of simple cells the sidebands of complex cells are less specific for the orientation and for the movement direction of a bar stimulus. The value of the sideband criterion for classification purposes is discussed.
