Abstract

AIM: the present study is aimed to investigate the standardized aqueous extract of Euphorbia prostrate (EPA) for its anti-inflammatory/anti-arthritic potential. METHODS: EPA was standardized by HPLC on the basis of quercetin, quercetrin, rutin and luteolin glucoside as markers. EPA was evaluated by in vivo (against carrageenan induced inflammation and Mycobacterium adjuvant induced chronic inflammtion) and in vitro (LPS induced iNO’s measurement) methods of anti inflammatory activity. Antioxidant activity of EPA was determined by DPPH assay. Acute toxicity/ safety and MLD50 was calculated in mice. RESULTS: Results of in vivo and in vitro studies employing rodents and J774 cell lines respectively, revealed it to possess highly significant anti-inflammatory/ anti-arthritic activity. Furthermore, γ-Glutamyle transpeptidase (γ-GT) values were significantly (P
