Abstract

Kimchi is famous health food in the world. It has a high concentration and a wider range of functional and bioactive substances. Many researchers reported that Kimchi has many health benefits such as antioxidant, anti‐cancer, antimicrobial, and anti‐diabetic effects. This study was evaluated using in vitro system anti‐obesity effects of anticancer Kimchi extract were tested in vitro using 3T3‐L1 cells. Oil red o staining of 3T3‐L1 preadipocyte cells treated with 25, 50, and 100 μg/mL anticancer Kimchi extract decreased significantly by 41.4, 61.4, and 71.7%, respectively (p<0.05) compared to those in standard Kimchi treated cells. Furthermore, anticancer Kimchi extract affected the down‐regulation expression patterns of genes such as peroxisome proliferator‐activated receptor γ(PPARγ), adipose‐specific fatty acid binding protein(aP2), glycerol‐3‐phosphate dehydrogenase 1(GPD1), and fatty acid synthase(FAS), significantly (p<0.05). Therefore, anticancer Kimchi may be considered for use in preventing fat accumulation.Grant Funding Source: Ministry of Food, Agriculture Forestry
