Abstract

WE have studied the effect of a number of analogues of thyroxine on oxygen consumption in mice by a method to be published in detail elsewhere. In these experiments sixteen mice, divided into two groups of eight, were used as controls, and similar groups were treated with thyroxine or thyroxine plus analogue by subcutaneous injection. Although no compound so far examined has produced a decisive fall in mouse metabolism when given alone, a substantial inhibition of the effect of thyroxine on oxygen consumption was obtained with the two compounds shown in the table.
