Abstract

Objective To investigate in vitro the hypolipidemic effect of “Decoction of hypolipidemia(DHL)” that a formula composing of four Chinese herbs including Rosa Roxburghii Tratt(Cili) which have been extensively used to the treatment of hypercholesterolemia in China. Method We used human liver cell lines (HepG2) as a cell model, added different compounds at various concentration to the culture cells and examined the contents of cholesterol in medium and cell lysate at the calibration of corresponding content of protein. Results In our model, Lipitor (3–10 uM) decreased the level of total cholesterol about 20% after 24h incubation. The water-soluble extract of DHL and Cili decreased in dose-dependent manner up to 50% the level of total cholesterol in the cell lysate. The further separation of water-soluble extract of Cili gave the same tendency of hypolipidemiac effect, while the decreasing rate is less than the original one. Conclusion Our results suggest that Cili can be a potential effective agent of lowering hyperlipidemic.
