Abstract

The influence of Ankado leaves extract on corrosion through mild steel in 1M HCl has been studied using weight loss measurements and electrochemical techniques. The inhibition efficiency of Ankado leaves was found to vary with concentration, temperature and immersion time. Good inhibition efficiency (IE) was evidenced in acid solutions, the inhibition efficiency was found to be 96.10% in 1M HCl of the 1.25% inhibitor concentration. The adsorption of these compounds on the steel surface for acid was found to obey Temkin s adsorption isotherm. The values of activation energy and free energy of adsorption indicated physical adsorption on mild steel surface. The potentiodynamic polarization data have shown that compounds studied are mixed type inhibitors. K e y w o r d s Adsorption, Ankado, Corrosion, Hydrocloric acid, Inhibition effect, Mild Steel
