Abstract

Schistosoma mansoni membranes were able to agglutinate mouse erythrocytes. Haemagglutination was mainly inhibited by different mammalian sera, some Salmonella antigens and a soluble factor(s) normally present in the adult worm tegument. The possible role played by this membrane-associated agglutinin in the host-parasite relationship is discussed.
