Abstract

In a cell-free system of rabbit reticulocyte ribosomes, native “messenger”-enriched ribonucleic acid-stimulated synthesis of protein is inhibited by chloramphenicol. Confirmation is provided for the previous observation that polyuridylic acid-stimulated incorporation of phenylalanine is inhibited by chloramphenicol. Under conditions of prolonged incubation, chloramphenicol may inhibit the synthesis of protein by ribosomal systems derived from either rabbit reticulocytes or bone marrow cells.
