Abstract

We show that the 4-oxo analogue of N-acetyl-D-neuraminic acid strongly inhibits N-acetylneuraminate lyase (NeuAc aldolase, EC 4.1.3.3) from Clostridum perfringens ( K i = 0.025 mM) and Escherichia coli ( K i = 0.15 mM). In each case the inhibition was competitive.
