Abstract

Air polluted with parts 10~8 concentrations of NO and NO2 significantly reduced the rate of growth of tomato seedlings. These two pollutants are known to occur in glasshouse atmos pheres enriched with CO2 from propane or kerosene burners. The inhibition of growth would be sufficient to reduce, or even nullify, the benefits of CO2 enrichment under conditions of low light intensity in winter.
