Abstract

Rabbit ova obtained after superovulation were exposed to either univalent antibody or control globulin treated with univalent-antiwhole semen or antiepididymal sperm isoantibodies showed evidence of cleavage. 35-37% of ova inseminated with saline or control univalent globulin-pretreated spermatozoa showed cleavage. Apart from cleavage rates the most striking effect of antibody treatment was on the dispersion of the cumulus and corona coats of the ova. In the absence of spermatozoa the cumulus and corona remained intact for over 19 hours but dispersed in less than 5 hours in the presence of control spermatozoa. Even after 24 hours there was poor dispersion of the cumulus when exposed to treated spermatozoa.
